The Paranormal Protection Society

The Paranormal Protection Society is a series of urban fantasy novellas written by Chris Perrin you can
buy right now on Amazon.
Super helpful, right? Okay, let’s dive into them a bit more. The premise of Paranormal Protection Society (that being there exists a group of vampires, werewolves and paranormals who protect other paranormals) jumped into my head during a brainstorming session. I have read some urban fantasy that I really enjoyed, most relevantly Dresden Files and Iron Druid, which shaped the books. However, a lot of the Paranormal Protection Society’s initial design came from wondering what my wife and her best friend would want to read.
My Wife’s Influence on the Paranormal Protection Society
Fortunately, I guessed right and wrote a series they seem to enjoy, although I don’t know how much my
wife realizes she influenced these books. For instance, Vance Garda is a werewolf because my wife likes
werewolves.
She also likes vampires, which was part of the reason I created Kolchan (the other part is
that in the history of the PPS, vampires have often warred with other paranormals, and I wanted to have
a good person from a typically evil group.) Also, funny story, Kolchan’s name was originally Kochan, but I
misspelled it enough that I just changed it.
My own Influences on the PPS
On top of what they wanted to read, I layered in a mix of Dresden Files meets Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I
always liked Harry Dresden as a first-person narrator, but Vance needed a little Jake Peralta in him or
the series wouldn’t have the feel I wanted.
That feeling, quite simply, is to tell stories that work on two levels. Level one: fun stories about the
semi-secret lives of paranormals living in Kansas City. Level two: a canvas to tackle contemporary issues
without being obvious. Paranormal Protection Society critiques racism, politics, apathy, greed and even
our preference for violence all while telling a story about a vampire, a werewolf and a fae solving
mysteries.
Anyway, I hope you click the link above and check out my books out. I think you’ll enjoy them on one or
both levels. And if you, do leave a review? It helps out a lot.
